Food styling
For 15 years I have styled food for photography and TVC for companies like ABC Organic Gardener Magazine, ABC Gardening Australia magazine, Super Food Ideas, Who Weekly, Australian Macadamia Society, Byron Bay Cookie Company, Banrock Station wines, Blue Harvest Seafood, Bellata Gold Pasta, Lindt Chocolate, Meat and Livestock Australia, Campbells Stock TVC, Nutella Rise and Shine TVC.
Edible flowers
We have all eaten edible flowers – zucchini blossoms, artichokes, Brussels sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower – all are flowers but an organic farmer on the north coast of NSW has made a success from growing nasturtiums, dianthus, violas and sunflowers for the edible market. I loved writing and styling this article on edible flowers for ABC Organic Gardener magazine. Janelle Johnston is a fourth generation farmer in Byron Bay and is a qualified Botanist. She has been growing certified organic salad leaves and vegetables for the past 10 years for the markets.
I discovered the delicious flavours a simple backyard flower can bring to a dish. If you want to discover more on what plants are edible and how to use them, read the article I wrote with ABC Organic Gardener magazine Horticultural editor, Penny Woodward.
